This guide provides technical instructions for recipients who wish to pause their signing session and resume it at a later time without loss of data.

Prerequisites

  • Access to an active IUSign signing invitation link.
  • Note: Progress is automatically cached, but formalizing the "Finish Later" action ensures session state synchronization.

Strategic Overview

Complex digital transactions often involve multi-page document packets that require significant time for review and execution. To accommodate the recipient's schedule, IUSign provides a Finish Later protocol. This feature allows a recipient to exit the secure portal after completing any portion of the document, with the assurance that all inputs (text fields, signatures, checkboxes) are cryptographically cached in the session memory. This eliminates the need for repetitive data entry and ensures a frictionless completion experience.

Implementation Sequence

1. Activating the Session Pause

If you choose to suspend your signing session, locate the Other Actions menu in the portal header or sidebar and select Finish Later.

2. State Synchronization and Encryption

Upon selecting this action, the IUSign engine executes the following:

  • Progress Persistence: All currently filled fields are synchronized with the backend database.
  • Security Lock: The current session is terminated to prevent unauthorized access if the device is left unattended.
  • Contextual Placeholder: The platform records exactly where you were in the "Guided Execution" flow.

3. Session Resumption

To resume your progress:

  1. Navigate back to your original email invitation.
  2. Select the Review and Sign action.
  3. The portal will re-initialize, and you will be automatically navigated to the first incomplete mandatory field. All your previous inputs will be pre-filled and fully editable.

Data Persistence and Security

FeatureTechnical Impact
Auto-Save FrequencyEvery 5 seconds of inactivity or upon field defocus.
Signature PersistenceAdopted signatures are cached for the duration of the envelope lifecycle.
Incomplete FieldsMaintained in their last-edited state.
Audit LogDoes not record a "signed" event until final submission; only engagement telemetry.

Strategic Considerations for Recipients

  • Deadline Management: Note that "Finishing Later" does not pause the envelope's expiration clock. Ensure you return and finalize the document before the Expiry Date defined by the sender.
  • Cross-Device Continuity: You can start a session on a desktop, select "Finish Later," and then resume on a mobile device. IUSign's cloud-based session state ensures full parity across all hardware platforms.
  • Data Accuracy: Use the "Finish Later" feature if you need to verify information before inputting it into the document (e.g., checking a financial figure or legal clause).
